Projeto Volta ao Mundo
After travel hitchhiking, by train, on foot, by bus, by camel, in more than seventy countries as a backpacker, now the foreigner trade analyst and university professor, Charles Zimmermann is traveling by bicycle around the world.
The project
The project “Cycling around the world in 1.000 days” that started in beginning of October 2009 will traverse more that 50 countries in 05 continents. Traveling more than 50,000 km for 1000 days (nearly three years) will be many appearances in many places of historical interest - many inexplicable and defy the man. From the locations, cities and places that I will cross, something fascinates me: the people who live there. Understand some of the values and cultural differences is something invaluable. Learn different languages and traditions. Live different lives.
The tent will be my home on most nights and bicycle the vehicle. The trip is also part of a project of distance education that seeks adventure in a promotion strategy for learning. Through the Internet schools will receive regular teaching materials with innovative photo and text reporting, the adventure around the world by bicycle.
The route
Is quite hard to show a route in the beginning of a trip of this size and say that I will follow according scheduled. There are many things that make you change your route several times during the journey, for example, weather. Sometimes is hard even to tell where I am going to be tomorrow. The map that was here till not long ago was showing just my original route, my plan. As soon as I start my trip the map have got obsolete and was hard for me to create a new map, because I new that more changes would come. I will try the best I could to keep on my original track. The result is what you see here. This is the basically the map of my journey, as it happens. It still can change, but now is closer to my real route. The trip is alive every new single day!

By bicycle? Why?
The goal of cycling around the world is because the bicycle allows you direct contact with nature as well a better interaction with the local people. It is also a dream mixed with freedom. It is a deep dive into the world and into the self.
The whole trip will be documented through photos, film and written reports, which are readily available on this website reporting different cultures of the many people with whom I will be in contact during the course of this project. All photographic material produced on this trip will be used in the edition of a picture book.
It is a project that unites one of the most ancient and popular transport the contemporary processes of distance education.
